The Iranian Urology Super-Specialty Private Hospital—the nation’s first smart, single-specialty hospital dedicated to urology—was officially inaugurated in November 2023 (coinciding with Nurses’ Day). The opening ceremony was graced by high-ranking officials and distinguished figures in the medical community, including the Senior Advisor to the Minister of Health and Medical Education, the Founder of Modern Urology (Dr. Naser Simforoush), the President of the Iranian Urological Association (Dr. Abbas Basiri), the Deputy of Treatment at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (Dr. Mohammad Dehghani Firouzabadi), the President of the Provincial Medical Council (Dr. Alireza Sedaghat), the Head of the Iranian Uro-oncology Team (Dr. Mohsen Ayati), the President of the Islamic Azad University (Dr. Ali Khakshour), the Head of the Mashhad City Council (Mr. Hassan Movahedian), alongside the President of the Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor of District 8, and numerous medical professionals. The hospital commenced operations with 68 approved beds and 40 active beds.

Historical Evolution

The facility was originally established in 1977 by Dr. Hassan Hengval as “Azar Hospital and Maternity Center,” spanning 3,400 square meters across five floors. Following the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the hospital was transferred to the public sector and renamed “Hazrat Zeinab Hospital.” Over time, it was repurposed into a center for Traditional Medicine and Infertility treatment. Unfortunately, the quality of services gradually declined, leading to the hospital’s eventual closure and decommissioning.

Revival and Modernization

In March 2021, the facility was put to tender and acquired by the private sector. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a massive revitalization project began. Following extensive renovations, structural modernization, and standardization according to Ministry of Health regulations, the center was reborn. After 43 years, it opened its doors as the country’s first fully smart, super-specialty urology hospital, fully equipped to receive and treat patients.
